This unit develops students’ knowledge in hearing disorders and competence in assessment, analysis and intervention for speech sound disorders within theoretical frameworks and for clients from a
range of backgrounds including clients from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.

- 1 demonstrate competent use of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to transcribe speech sound data, GC1, GC3
- 2 demonstrate knowledge in hearing disorders, GC2
- 3 integrate advanced knowledge of phonetics and phonology to plan evidence based assessment, and interpret data within a theoretical framework , GC2
- 4 synthesise assessment information in order to plan and justify evidence based intervention for clients with speech sound disorders for clients from a range of cultural backgrounds, GC2, GC5
