In this unit students will further develop their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical models of language and how these can be applied to adult language impairment. Students will critically
evaluate the evidence for assessment, management and advocacy of people who have an acquired language and cognitive communication disorders in order to develop skills in the assessment and
management of clients, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This unit supports students to develop the communication and clinical interaction skills relevant to speech pathology
practice by providing an opportunity to interact with an elderly member of the community (with mild dementia) through simulation-based learning.
